Branson sets DL mark; Riney cruises to title |

John Hunn won the 132 lb. title, going 6 for 9 and totaling 986 lbs. John used this meet as a tune up and plans on entering the Ozark to really turn some heads. Although he did make all three deadlifts, he indicated his deadlift was down a bit. He pulled 413 lbs., which is way over triple bodyweight. I can foresee him eventually setting the 132 lb. state deadlift record if he hits the weight hard and lines up some good training.
Zac Branson took the 148 lb. title with a total of 892 lbs. and set a new deadlift mark for guys 16-17, in this weightclass. Zac pulled 396 lbs. to write over Wesley Shipley's record set way back in 1988. When Zac fills out and get thicker with age, he will be some kind of lifter. Having been around the weights for most of his life, he is already well on his way! Zac was also the top teenage lifter and also won the Raw division over James Clark. One noteable point, Zac decided to try lifting in jut a wrestling singlet and made everyone a believer that he is old-time strong, the way it was done decades past!
In the 165's, Gene Schoonmaker of the Above All P owerlifting Team was unopposed and won the title in this class. His 440 lb. deadlift was a memorable lift and quite a deadlift.
Would someone please stand up and challenge Dennis Riney? People were remarking about how smooth and steady Dennis is while on the platform. He performs the lifts with great technique and is exciting to watch. I know he has had to deal with some shoulder trouble over the last few years and as a result his bench was a little down, but his deadlift seems to have come up a bit. Dennis has short arms and is not known for his pulling ability, but still made all three and ended with a 512 lb. deadlift! Riney's Above All teammate Kerry Glueck missed just two lifts and was runner up in the 181's.
