Deadlift Nationals Report
The 2003 Deadlift Nationals marked the 26th National Championship held in St. Louis, Mo and also marked the beginning of a new period, the Harold Gaines era. FULL REPORT
Jeff Lewis wins Ironmind Rolling Thunder contest
In addition to the big Deadlifts, we also ran the Ironmind Rolling Thunder contest over
the weekend. The competition uses the Rolling Thunder grip tester, which is a product
designed and sold by Randy Strossen of Ironmind.com. With a diameter about as thick as a soda can,
this baby is hard to hold! Winning the event was Jeff Lewis who edged out Tim Mooney, who was unable to
make the 195 lbs. that Lewis completed for the win. For their trouble, Lewis earned a $50 gift certificate to Ironmind.com and
Mooney won a $25 gift certificate. If you haven't used an Ironmind Rolling Thunder, you should.
No matter if you are a deadlift specialist, a bencher or even a strongmen; there is no excuse for a lack of grip strength.
Get this tool and you won't miss too many lifts for lack of hand strength. For a Stronger Mind and Stronger Body, or to check out the Rolling Thunder, go to [www.Ironmind.com]
Terry Stanley wins X-TREME STRONGMAN Suitcase Challenge
Congratulations to Terry Stanley on winning the X-TREME STRONGMAN Suitcase Challenge. The event was sponsored by
Jim Davis and X-TREME STRONGMAN and was a test to see which competitor could stand the longest, while holding a
250 lb. solid steel "suitcase" in each hand. There were 6 contestants in all but the winner was Terry Stanley of Granite City, IL, who held
them for 1:08. St. Louis has had a long tradition of being the hub of National Powerlifting Competitions. Over the last 5 years, Jim
Davis and his crew have worked hard on establishing St. Louis as the Nation's capital for Strongman competitions. As a result, Jim's X-TREME STRONGMAN National event
is the designated feeder for the World's Strongest Man competition. So we are quite familiar with the sport of Strongman here in St. Louis.
Crain Muscle World was at DL Nationals!
That's right, Rickey Dale Crain pulled his trailer full of goods to St. Louis over the weekend to
setup shop for the Deadlift Nationals. Crain had anything a lifter or strength fan would want.
Suits, wraps, supplements, bars, equipment, you name it they brought it. Books, magazines, hats, shirts, pants,
and anything else you can imagine. Be sure to stop by the Crain website and pickup and item or two. Visit Rickey Dale Crain at: [ www.crainsmuscleworld.com]
Earthquake Nutrition was in the house!
Hardcore competitor John "Earthquake" Thomas was also at the Deadlift Nationals
competiting as well as selling his Nutritional products. The Earthquake is as entertaining
as they come and did well in the competition. Along with that, he also had his protein coffee for people to try.
Be sure to stop by Earthquake's website and drop him an e-mail....[www.earthquakeNutrition.com]
Next Meet: Central USA November 15th!
Ok gang, put those deadlifts to rest for a while and get the squats and benchpresses in line....we've got the 14th annual Central USA next on the schedule.
This meet is traditionally one of the area's most competitive meets and most always has some very full classes.
This year should be no different since I have already had quite a few calls and e-mails on it. Held at Universal Fitness Center on a double wide, indoor
tennis court, the meet is a blast! With a Ryan's buffet nearby for Friday night and a Pizza Inn ready for us on Saturday, how can you go wrong?
