Hostile spotters ready for Hostile meet!
|
 Jim Davis |
 Rick Nigh |
 Darrell Campbell |
 Justin Newsome |
 Terry Stanley |
The Chosen 5 to cover the squats are ready...
Saturday will be a contest of epic proportions. Although the number of competitors will be low at 25, the intensity should be very high.
The same can be said for the spotters. We've got 5 guys lined up who are just foaming at the mouth,
ready for action. They've all seen their fair share of the iron, too.
Terry Stanley is the veteran of the crew and has
been involved in spotting at National meets going all the way back to the 1988 Mens Nationals. A stout 220 lber, he's no stranger to heavy weights.
Paired up with him will be YMCA lifter Rick Nigh. Nigh has gained considerable experience at last year's Collegiate Nationals and at 2002's ultra-intense High School
Nationals. That's the way Rick likes it though, he lives on the edge and stays keyed up at all times.
Jim Davis has certainly become a very well known
figure in St. Louis. If not for running the Strongman Nationals, at least for his spotting abilities as well. Jim, like Rick, was also at both big meets in 2002 & 2003,
and actually likes standing up on the platform in the eye of the hurricane. And stand he does....Jim stands in at 6'3" and is about 320 lbs. of tattoo covered bulk.
Darrell Campbell is the newcomer to the stage and will back spot. Darrell trains with Rick Nigh at the old Y and can be seen tearing it up pretty good each evening. The 5th and final link to the crew is the 17 year old
Man-child named Justin Newsome. Unless you've been living under a rock, you know that Justin is the 310 lb. kid with the huge lifts. He narrowly missed a 677 deadlift late last year and is looking good for the High School Nationals in March.
Lifters be prepared to lift big...because the spotters are more than ready!
