Name: Lance Kirchner
Division: OPEN
Ht: 5’7"
Hometown: Janesville, WI
Profession: Factory worker(Lear Corp)
Family: I have been married for ten years this July to Nicole and I have 2 sons; Kyler 10 and Chandler 7 My boys do not lift yet but maybe someday they will want to. My wife is training to do a marathon right now and also lifts but does not powerlift.
Years training: I started lifting weights when I was 12. I was just doing some bodybuilding stuff and I realized I was not very good at it! I started powerlifting and (squatting and deadlifting)when I was about 23. I stated competing right away after I started training for powerlifting.
Years competing: 7 years this year (2005)
Why did you start lifting/competing: I realized I was stronger than most people without even training for it so I decided to give powerlifting a try.
Person you most look up to: My wife, she is the backbone of my family and home. She can carry all my dead weight and has an endless amount of energy and positive attitude(unlike me). She keeps me and everyone around her going!
Favorite foods: Steak
Favorite foods for cheating: Now that Im up to the 82.5 class I eat whatever I want. I cheat with every meal pretty much. Pizza, doughnuts, chips, and Ice cream are common in my diet. Everything is ok as long as I eat something healthy with it.
The drink you absolutely love: I am a beer drinker (but you probably guessed that with me being from Wisconsin!)
Advice for beginners: Don’t get too crazy with your supplements, and don’t try those crazy training routines. Just do the basics and train HARD. I see too many people that have potential but have no heart. They want to try some neat new exercise instead of hammering out the basics.
Tell us the things that nobody would EVER guess about you: I am a Dragonball Z fanatic! I love that stuff. I own every episode of Dragonball Z on DVD(that are released to date). The rest I have on video. I will check the mail every couple hours if Im expecting a delivery of something DBZ! I know, I need help!
What kind of collections do you own: Dragonball, Dragonball Z, and Dragonball GT Videos.
Tell us the most recent impulsive thing you've done? Im not too impulsive. Sometimes I want to try something in the gym like see how many pull ups I can do or something or try some crazy exercise for fun but that is about it.
Give us some predictions on what to expect at the 2005 Benchpress
Nationals: I expect to win. 5 pounds or 100 doesn’t matter to me. I am hoping for a big lift to get passed. 272.5 kg; I routinely hit 250-260kg in the gym for a couple/few reps right now. We'll see what happens.
