Full bio for Ashley
Best Lifts:
" 330 squat; 160 bench; 315 deadlift; 799 total. Years competing:  I began with the best Collegiate National Team ever! with Coach Talton at LATECH for 3 years, lifted one year with Wade Hooper at NLU, took off 2 years to get through OT school, ran into this amazing guy at the 2002 Collegiate Nationals whom I fell in love with and married. It was a blackmail marriage though…I had a choice to start lifting again or he was going to dump me! hehe So, a grand total of about 5-6 years. "

Sports prior to powerlifting:
" Cheerleading in HS and at LATECH "

Favorite foods:
" Spaghetti and anything CHOCOLATE! "

Favorite foods if not dieting:
" Same as above, Spaghetti and anything CHOCOLATE!"

Hobbies and interests outside of powerlifting:
" I really enjoy drawing and painting when I have time, and interior decorating and landscaping-which is all the time! "

If given an afternoon or entire evening to yourself, you would most likely do what:
" I love to sit outside on the patio during a nice sunny day or breezy night with a glass of Chardonney and a pint of Godiva Ice Cream with a good book while catching a few rays! (Sherman I promise I would never eat the entire pint!) "

Do you collect anything?
" HATS especially antique or unusual hats. "

Last book you read:
" Night Whispers by Judith McNaught. GREAT mystery/drama. "

Favorite musical artists:
" Metallica when lifting and Wayne Toups when dancing. "

If stranded on an island, what book/magazine, cd, food & drink would you want?
" Magazine-Traditional Home, so I could redecorate in my spare the time!, CD- Nora Jones- it is so relaxing, Food- my homemade fruit & nut trail mix, Drink- Chardonney, a few bottles of course! "

People would never guess this about you:
" I use to train for fitness competitions. "

If queen for a day you would do what differently:
" Make powerlifting an Olympic sport. "

Most impressive feat of strength you have ever seen:
" Priscilla Ribic winning the 2004 Women’s Worlds in France. "

Who has had the most impact on your career:
" I must start with Coach Talton for teaching me the techniques of powerlifting, pushing me to be the best, train hard, and forgodsake” Squat to the ground or don’t come back up…I seem to forget that sometimes, and I bet he’d like to strangle me! But there are still two more guys who have also impacted my career greatly or I wouldn’t have probably returned to Powerlifting and that’s my Husband BJ (who blackmailed me as you remember!) and Sherman Ledford ( who has long nights at the gym waiting for me to get there after work when we lived in GA, has left me many, many message on my phone to get me psyched before workouts now that were in Iowa. He is so dedicated to keeping me focused on my training cycles, my goals and my WEIGHT ( no more CHOCOLATE only CHOC. Protein Bars!). "

What lifter(s) do you really look up to:
" Well, since I’m only 4’11 that would mean probably everyone! Hehe No, really, I would definitely have to say my husband, he’s going to kill me for saying this but it is the truth. Although, it’s been a few years since his last competition due to a repetitive back injury, he has never backed down from his goals. He pushes himself 110% everyday we lift, striving to be the BEST. He has more compassion about Powerlifting than anyone I’ve ever met and one day soon, he’ll make a comeback! "

The defining moment that made you realize you wanted to compete:
" When I walked into the LA TECH powerlifting gym and saw all the excitement; hollering, yelling, sweating, and chalk dust in the air, I knew then that I could really enjoy this sport. "

The defining moment of your life:
" When I realized what it REALLY meant to be a Christian and to know and love Jesus Christ. "
