Sports prior to powerlifting:
|
 |
"
7th & 8th grade volleyball. Even though I powerlift,
I still do other sports. I did Varsity Track in 9th grade and JV Boys' Football in
10th grade. In track I did the Shot put, Discus 100 Meter Dash and was the
3rd Person for the 400 relay. I did not have time to do track when I was a
sophomore as I had to train really hard for the Women's Worlds in Cahors, France.
For football, I was a starting 1st string right defensive tackle. It was my first
time of ever playing the sport. I had plenty of tackles all by myself and assisted
in many others. We had 8 wins and 0 losses. It was great!

Most impressive feat of strength you have ever seen:
|
 |
"
The most impressive feat of
strength that I have seen would be Craig Terry. He has been a powerlifter for many
many years. He is in the 198-weight class. I met him for the first time on April 24,
2004 at the "No Frills Qualifier" in Plainwell. He walked up to me and said that I
have great potential in powerlifting. That day he did a 777 lb. deadlift. Also on
April 24, 2004, I saw him do a 690 lb. squat. It is also an open state record in
his weight class.

Give us your quotes for the upcoming Women's Nationals in St. Louis:
|
 |
"
These quotes are not from me, but I think people can relate to them. I personally do.
This quote is from a foreign exchange student friend. I knew her for a short amount
of time, but when I was down from all the very mean and cruel kids at my school,
(not Plainwell) she cheered me up. Days before she had to leave to her home in
Almaty, Kazakhstan, she wrote me this quote:
"Don't ever let anybody make you believe that you don't deserve what you want."
-Lena Sotnikova
Another quote is from my mom. She has been through the thick and thin with me,
driving me up, down, and across the country, and more. This is her quote:
"Don't let the jealousy of others hold you back."
-Pamela Brown
Another quote is from a friend of ours. This is her quote:
"Be not your nameless person and worry about what others think.
Be proud of yourself. You are an angel sent from Heaven."
-Susannah Cadwell
Kids at my school are rude and jealous of my strength and my future. Another
friend is Bruna Pacheco, a foreign exchange student from Brazil. She cheered me up too.
Through the thick and thin, all these people helped me. I tell stories to my mom, Bruna,
and Lena of what happened at school and they all say, "Ignore them!" They will never
be as good as you!" Who ever reads these quotes---they come from the heart. Maybe
I will say a quote:
"Believe in yourself. Set yourself goals. The sky is the limit. Nothing can
hold you back."
-Bonica Brown

The defining moment that made you realize you wanted to compete:
|
 |
"
When I realized that I could be a successful athlete in other sports besides volleyball.
A bad experience of not being chosen.
