Sioux-z Hartwig (con't)

Let me recap some of the highlights of the 12 years that Sioux-z has been lifting:
  • In 1993, Sioux-z was on the ADFPA World Team and won the WDFPF Worlds.
  • When the USAPL came into being in 1998, she was one of the first IPF Women's World Team members. Sioux-z placed 6th in the 48 kg class with a 342.5 kg total.
  • 1999 IPF Worlds (Thisted, Denmark) she placed 7th in the 48kg class, totaling 352.5kg
  • 2000 IPF Worlds (Buenos Aires, Argentina) she placed 5th in the 48kg class and totaled 345kgs.
  • 2001 IPF Worlds (Frydek-Mistk, Czechia) she made the move up to the 52kg class. Sioux-z upped her total to 395kgs to earn a 6th place finish. On a side note, she actually tied for 5th with Stephanie Cornette of France, but took the 6th place finish on a bodyweight difference of .5 kgs.
  • When 2002 rolled around, we saw great improvements in Sioux-z's lifting. In the IPF Worlds held in Reisa, Germany, she totaled 427.5kg at 52 kg and took the Bronze.
  • 2003 was the banner year for her IPF competitive lifting. At the Worlds held in Chicago, Sioux-z won Gold in the 52kg class with a total of 430kg. It was very exciting to watch that battle. At the Subs, Stephanie Cornette of France, the same competitor as before, was ahead by 2.5kgs. Sioux-z pulled a winning deadlift to beat her old nemesis by 2.5ks. It was a storybook ending to a great battle and rivalry on the lifting platform. She made all of us very proud that day.
Sioux-Z HartwigI discussed with her what life has been like in the last year, in regards to finding out about the back problem. She said it was hard to take the time off from the sport she deeply loves, but she made the right choice. Once again, showing she's a “smart lifter”. After months of not training, Sioux-z is making a comeback . "I'm doing a small qualifier in August. Then I plan to get ready for the 2005 Nationals. My training consists of 4 days a week lifting for about 1 hour. Then I also do cardio for 30-50 minutes, 5 times a week, to help me get in better shape".

I asked her if she could give us any predictions about her return to the platform at Women's Nationals in St Louis. "Well, long time friend Matt Gary is setting up my training schedule for Nationals and we're planning on bigger numbers than ever before. So far, training is going well, and I’m not having problems with the back injury. I'm happier than ever and ready to get back into the sport I love".

Speaking for your legions of fans, Sioux-z, we couldn't be happier that things are working out for you. It hasn’t been the same around powerlifting this last year without you, and we can't wait to see you do your thing again. "Hail to the returning Champion!"
