River's Edge Powerlifting notes

Meet Notes, Map/Directions and Misc Info

Here are some items to remember that hopefully will be of some help to lifters preparing to lift at the upcoming meet.

The meet will be in a warehouse, a very large one. Space will not be a problem, but since it is an empty warehouse and not a high school that means there are no chairs, so remember to bring one. We'll have some but they will be limited to the platform on deck area. Warmup platforms should be plentiful. As of this writing there will be two platforms.

The meet will be in warehouse 3F. Once inside the River's Edge complex, take the first left, which is 1st street. This will run right into warehouse 3. Ours will be located on the nearest end warehouse 3. They have signs on the sides of the building. I will also be posting a few signs.

If you are in town on Friday, by all means make it to the early equipment check and weigh-in. You wouldn't believe how much this helps us to make our 9am start time. If you are going to be running late e-mail me or call, chances are good that I'll be there after the advertised ending time of 8pm. We have had a lot of lifters in the past, who showed up at 8:28am last year on the morning of the meet. This has been known to cause meet director meltdown. All joking aside, getting t othe meet earlier really helps me.

Know your openers head of time, have them on paper written down. The meet will be in kilos, so be prepared. Here is a kilochart for your convenience. We will have them at the meet as well. Kilo Chart provided by USAPLNationals.com

The process for registration and check in will be:
1. Get in line at the registration table to either show or buy your USAPL Card, get your meet card and put down openers. Here you will also recieve your pre-ordered shirts.

2. After you have your meet card and openers on it, if you are a full meet lifter, you will need to get fitted for your squat rack height.

3. Equipment check is next. Be sure to bring all of your equipment from the car, have wraps unrolled, and everything ready to be looked over. If a lifter has lifted in a USA Powerlifting meet before and has all of the same equipment, chances are great that the equipment check will go faster for them. For newer liftes we make an effort to help them to know what is allowed and not allowed.

4. Weigh-in is last. If you are setting a state or American record you must weigh-in in the morning. If this is the case, just return your meet card to the registration table and pick it up the next morning. Once lifters are weighed, it's important that the referee keep your met card so we can process your info. We won't know your openers if they are stuffed in your gym bag and you have left to go to McDonalds. The referee weighing you in will know to keep your card.

We will attempt to take very small breaks between each event. As meets go, 5 minutes turns into 15 -20 minutes pretty quick though. Just know that everyone will have enough time to warm up, but be sure not to be just sitting around telling jokes when you are 10 lifters away. Have your warmups in.

If you are a lifter who might be close to qualifying for your respecitve National Championships (Open, High School, Teen, Jr, Collegiate), know what you need to total in order to qualify. We love to see lifters go as far as they can.

Once your lift is completed, quickly get your next attempt in so we can keep things moving efficiently. We will to avoid the 1 minute rule that says we have to enter your next attempt if you haven't done so in the 1 minute (If you missed previous lift, weight stays same; if you made previous attempt, we bump it up by 2.5 kg's.). However, if the need arises it's possible for us to use it but I'd rather not.

We will be using the 1 minute rule once the bar is loaded. This means you have 1 minute to recieve the start command/start the lift.

Flight info for all classes will be posted once I am assurd that I have all entries.

Custom River's Edge shirts will have the names of all lifters in the meet on back.

The temperature in the building wil lbe a crap shoot. Three years ago people were watching th meet in coats. Two years ago in the middle of October it was 90degrees. There is no heat in the building, so prepare yourself with sweatpants and a sweatshirt/jacket in case it's cool. I've lifted at a few meets where it was really cool and personally my opinipon is that the cooler it is, the better. Just keep warm.

We will have an assortment of food for sale. The BBQ Beef was a huge hit last year, even selling out after we made nearly 40 lbs of lean, shredded beef brisket. We will be making even more of it this year.

Meet History:
In it's 5th year, the River's Edge began as the replacement for the long running Central USA that ran for 14 years. We expect 2009 to be as big as ever, even bigger than the previous year's 60 lifter event. WE ARE PLANNING FOR TWO PLATFORMS!
