The 2007 God, Guys and Guts Strongman Challenge was wildly successful thanks to the work of Have Bible Will Travel as well as Wayne Eilermann who was gracious enough to host the event. The contest was drug tested, and was an idea that Pastor Pat Rankin came up with in order to give some of the newcomers a quality event to compete in.

With a packed house for most of the 4 hours the contest ran, a good time was had by all. In the Lightweights, Jarod Girdley of West Plains, MO and Justin Wheeler were neck and neck most of the day. In the end though, Wheeler outlasted Girdley and edged him out by a score of 59 to 55 points for the victory. These two are cut out of the same mold with long, lean physiques. Bobby Joe Mattingly of Kentucky wasn't too far behind, wrapping up 3rd place with 53 points. His 18 reps in the log press was most impressive, topping the nearest competitors by a whopping margin of 6 reps. All in all the Lightweights were super competitive with 13 athletes fighting it out all day long.

In the Heavyweight class, Jared Davis came to the event very well prepared. Davis' 4 out of 5, 1st place finishes is evidence of that as he topped Shan Housekeeper who made the trip from Kentucky. Davis, like the aforementioned Girdley, is also from West Plains, MO and is a product of the very successful Rodney Wood school of lifting. Housekeeper knocked out 14 reps with the 230 lb. log to win the log press and was on Davis' heels all day long. Last minute entrant Ryan Blumhorst sealed up 3rd place when he went 42.56 seconds in the crucifix hold.

In the Teenage event Sam Cox of Ft. Riley, KS won 4 events to take top honors here. All of the young guys in this class should be proud of their efforts since it takes courage just to enter an event like this. A job well done guys!

Joe Chan won the High Reps Benchpress by performing 28 reps with his bodyweight of 170 lbs.

Throughout the event we were treated to performances by the God Squad, Have Bible Will Travel's Christian Strongman team. Along with the God Squad, the HBWT band, The Praizor's Edge, played a few rocking sets to keep things entertaining.

This event was a lot of fun, and there are already requests for the next one. The purpose of it was to help Pat's church, Have Bible Will Travel, and it was very successful.

This event will be a drug tested competition. Please don't enter if you are not eligible. Winners of each division (and possibly top placers) to be tested. This event is also a fundraiser for Have Bible Will Travel and we would love to see you there. Pat Rankin could very well break the hot dog eating record.
