Powerlifting has gained a popular following through the years. Lifters who would like to train for a meet and test thier strength, wanted an option to compete on a National level, so National events were organized.
The IBSA offers this option for Blind and Visually Impaired Athletes and with the support of the USABA, we expect the 2009 edition of this event will be a stellar championship.
We are proud to host the 2009 World Bench Press and Powerlifting Championships for Blind and Visually Impaired Athletes.

Peter Thorne, IBSA Vice-Chairman comments on upcoming Worlds:
"On July 6, 2009, the Hyatt Hotel, in Miami Florida will host, once more, international teams of blind and visually impaired athletes. These athletes come to Miami from every corner of the globe for both an awesome and inspiring World Championship event. These amazing blind athletes will demonstrate world class power. Their exciting performances can rival that of their sighted brother athletes. This world championship differs from all other World Championships as EVERY athlete to competing is already a champion by virtue of his or her presence on the lifting platform. Regardless of winning the gold or event placement, each and every one of these inspiring power athletes will leave Miami s they came -- TRUE CHAMPIONS. This is a truly moving event for everyone.I invite you to join me in Miami and support all these amazing young men and women."
