Nick Weite added yet another title to his collection: He is now an Open National Champion. Nick won the 275 lb. National Title at the USA Powerlifting Mens Nationals on June 20th in Palm Springs, CA.
In going 9 for 9, Nick had the meet of his life. His lifts were:
826 Squat
584 Benchpress
793 Deadlift
The lifts above added up to a whopping 1,000 kilogram total, which equate to a stellar 2,204 tally. By winning the title outright and having such a high total, he is assured of a spot on the USA World Team. The team will travel to Potchefstroom, South Africa for the IPF Worlds in November.
Matt Schamburg continued his meteoric rise with the following lifts:
688 Squat
529 Benchpress
611 Deadlift
His numbers left him with an 830 kg. total which comes out to an 1,829 lb. sum and gave him the Jr. National Title. The squat, benchpress and total are all good for new Missouri State Jr. Records in the 242 lb. class.
220 lb. Mike Pratt also lifted and for the 2nd year in a row was able to place at the Mens Nationals. Getting to the Nationals is a feat, and placing once is tremendous; but to place for two years in a a row is even tougher. Mike has steadily climbed the ranks and turned himself into a heavy hitter with a lot of hard work. His lifts were:
672 Squat
451 Benchpress
589 Deadlift
His total of 1,714 lbs. landed him in 4th place, just one attempt off of the Bronze medal position.
Jessie Hernandez was yet another area lifter on the National card. Although he lives in Oklahoma, he is a former Missouri USAPL lifter. Jessie's lifts were:
622 Squat
446 Benchpress
628 Deadlift
His final sum amounted to 1,697 lbs. and a 3rd place finish in the 275 lb. Junior division.
