| The contest went well overall and the brightest part was that every kid qualified for the Nationals in March. Often when you get new lifters that aren't accustomed to the strict rules, disaster strikes at least some lifters and we have them bomb out. But that was not that case this weekend. It took some work, convincing some that they could squat at the proper depth, and a few to lower their openers, and to their credit, everyone took the advice. There's no substitute for training under the rules in the actual workouts and that showed in the lifting of Jeff Welker's Roxana kids and Randy Biggham's army of lifters from Colfax, IL. As Randy stated, he has his kids train as if it were the Nationals every workout. It certyainly showed since he had several kids go 9 for 9 and have perfect days. After watching the lifting this weekend there are a few observations and pointers I'd like to offer to those that lifted. |
